So, We Got a Dog

So, We Got a Dog

Many folks (and by that, I mean three of you precious readers) have asked us for an update on our dog journey.

We have news on that front!

On February 14th, in the year of our Lord 2025, Trey and I expanded our family as we welcomed our new addition, Boone Kotara!

We found our guy a few weekends ago.

One of my old players/ schoolkids got in touch with me about her litter of golden pups. Really, can you imagine surviving me in a classroom AND on a softball field??

God bless you, Clara.

At any rate, these 10 week old pups were ready for a new home. We went and met the crew, and our sights were set on the most golden of the group.

And just like that, a couple days later, Trey and I became parents for the first time (LOL).

I’ll be honest with you:

I was a little overwhelmed the first week/ week. My thought was this: it’s never going to be just us two (Trey and me) ever again.

Y’all. I needed someone to shake me.

Have you ever seen someone be so dramatic?!

The first few nights, as Boone got used to his crate, he would yowl and whine all night. He wasn’t a fan of his containment.

The only thing that would really calm him was for me to stick my fingers through his crate bars. I’m not too ashamed to admit that I fell asleep more than once like this- hand outstretched, desperate for that baby to ZIP IT UP.

We’re doing better now! Boone’s sleeping through the night for the most part, specifically when his keepers remember to take up the water bowl earlier enough to avoid late-night journeys into the backyard.

For the most part, Boone is a surprisingly calm little pup.

Now, he does get 100% amped up in the morning and proceeds to prance around the house a bit after we take him out.

Also, he will get the Zoomies outside and proceed to sprint around the trailer.

HOWEVER.

This past week, Trey’s been out of commission with the flu. As he’s napped during the day, Boone has been more than happy to nap on the couch with him.

His favorite place to lay in the mornings is in my lap as I do my Bible study.

Can you imagine how obsessed Trey and I both are?

There will be plenty more posts about our pup.

Needless to say, Trey and I have lost our collective minds over Boone, who continually proves himself to be the goodest boy ever, along with his best friend and neighbor, Buddy Meadows.

They share that title.

This parenting thing sure is a lot of work, though.

(I kid, I kid! Real parents of the two-legged kind, please don’t fight me. I’m a coward.)

Here are some pics of the pup. Enjoy! My camera roll is well on its way to being totally full!
