Your odds-and-ends drawer of the internet- you never know what you might find.

Celebrations Galore, Weighted Vests, and Functional Medicine: A Week in Review

Often, I’ll do themed posts, but I’m thinking that, this time around, I’ll do one focused on the random happenings this past week.

It was pretty typical, but overall, pretty good.

I don’t do that as much any more, but here goes:

Time change: it’s a yes for me, dawg.

This week, every night felt like it was 10,000 hours long.

As a sunny weather gal, I loved it. The weather couldn’t have been nicer, and I took full advantage of it.

I pontificated last week about its effect on my sleep.

I was correct. Time change + a full moon are a recipe for disaster for my slumber, but nonetheless, I am thriving.

If you see me running in a weighted vest…

A few weeks ago, we were cleaning out a storage building, and I just so happened to find my weighted vest I got during Covid.

If you were reading this blog then, you may remember that 2020 brought with it plantar fasciitis, as I did nothing but walk during this time.

At any rate, I found this thing, wore it a couple of times at home, and decided to give it a test run at school.

The kids loved it, let me tell ya.

“YOU PLANNIN’ ON JUMPIN’ OUT OF AN AIRPLANE AFTER SCHOOL TODAY?!”

But what I do know is that, Wednesday, I did a running workout in the vest. Now, I’m not saying it worked miracles, okay?

I’m not saying that.

BUT what I AM saying is that, on Thursday, I shaved about a minute off each mile I ran across a four mile run.

I did it in 35 minutes.

It wasn’t my best, but it was a better one, so far as the recent cantering goes.

I’m trying to get back into the running game: slowly but surely, it’s happening.

So, if you see me running in a weighted vest, mind ya’ own business.

Unless you need the link, in which case, I know a gal.

My wig got shook.

I work hard at my job to make sure I can provide a nice life for our puppy.

Also, I work hard because, one day, these kids are going to be in charge of a grandmother of mine or mine own self.

These fruits of my labor are finally coming together (though, I will say, one of my kids didn’t put a top on Trey’s DQ blizzard the other day- not important, but worth mentioning).

One of my gals, my precious Addisyn Keel, one of my past softball players (she had the worst ever assistant coach- some Meadows lady?? idk) shook my wig for me.

I thought I would have to get my hair shaved off, simply because I am the worst at making hair appointments. I just wait too dadgum long.

Addisyn worked wonders, though.

It was good to catch up with my girl, and she knocked the hair out of the park.

There was a lot of celebrating over the weekend.

As a friend group, we are expanding with the additions of two new little babies. Little Miss Lucy Cranford and Little Mr./ Mrs. Fletcher will make their arrivals in April, but this weekend, we carried out some fun festivities.

There was a baby shower for Q, and a nesting party for both her and Aubri.

I would like to say, it’s amazing what you can get done while you run your mouth amongst friends. We haven’t been able to spend that amount of time with each other in a while.

Quincy made the comment and I agree: it was almost like being back in college.

That was true: I think we all needed this past weekend.

And then there were the Meadows babies.

We celebrated the twins’ birthdays, and we got to see our Atlanta crew. The agenda consisted of dinner, charades, and a movie night.

The kiddos got an afternoon on the farm, and it all ended with the movie, Shrek

It was a great Saturday afternoon!

I’m shaving off those seconds!

One Caroline Thrower- pickleball extraordinaire- has now decided she is a runner.

I should have never mentioned that I, also, was thinking about getting back into the running gig.

She ran her first half marathon recently. I was happy for her. I celebrated her. And yet now…

Her big idea is that we need to run a half marathon together.

It should be said that I consider her to be one of- if not THE best- female athletes I’ve ever known.

So, this should be fun, right?

I’m not going to make a cut off set for the end of the school year, but maybe in the fall? Maybe?? If the weighted vest can steadily make improvements, we will be in business.

Caroline Thrower, if you are reading this: you need to be running your miles. We have a race to prepare for.

Another round with the functional medicine fairy godmother

Trey and I both took Monday off for a pseudo-date day and a for-real doctor’s appointment with our beloved Dr. Oja. We’re on an ‘every six months’ schedule with her.

If you’ve ever heard me sing her praises, please know I meant every word: I think she is the best, hands-down.

I can’t recommend her highly enough.

Dr. Oja is the boss. I try to tell everyone I know who has an issue that she can fix it.

And I truly believe that: I think she can fix anyone.

When I first started going to see her back in 2023, I rolled my ankles all the time- at least twice a month. Now, since we’ve been seeing Dr. Oja, I’ve rolled it only ONCE in almost two years.

It should be said: this was on a hike, so the elements might have been slightly to blame.

At the end of the day, I still have enough energy most days to go exercise. I’m running CIRCLES around these children.

Blame it on the supplementation.

She has a podcast called “Little By.” I would strongly recommend it if you like health-esque stuff.

Again- the staff is top-tier, and Dr. Oja is the best.

This time around, she told me what I figured: I sho’ am ugly, but I sho’ am mostly healthy.

Although, I will say this: this was before I told her how many packs of tuna I was eating in a week.

She said she wanted to test me for mercury next time.

Yikes.

Boone also had a trip to the doctor.

We took Booney baby for his vet appointment when we got home from Atlanta that day. He got a perfect bill of health.

He’s gone a cup of food per day. I know that no one cares about this information, but it seemed like something worthy of celebration for his dad and me.

THEY GROW UP SO FAST.

We’ve officially had him for a month last Friday.

He is strongly anti-bath and very much pro-snuggling. He loves Pippa and Poppy’s house the most because his bestie. Buddy, lives there.

He is still the goodest boy.

Life can change in an instant.

May I never forget to celebrate and find joy in both the exciting AND the mundane.

We are currently headed to the Great Wolf Lodge to hang out with some of our Memphis crew- Kotaras and McCurrens unite.

I’m the luckiest woman alive- thank You, God, for this life!
