In the past five years, Trey and I have made a conscious effort to travel and explore together as much as possible.
This has led to traipsing across the Carolinas, Florida, Alabama, Cape Cod, and just about every nook and cranny of our home state of Georgia.
What’s more, Trey’s hails from Memphis, Texas, and Kansas, so we have organic reasons to travel, too.
That being the case, we normally have a trip lined up for spring break- some type of adventure that will get us out of the Middle Georgia area for at least a little bit.
This year, we were not interested in that.
In the weeks leading up to spring break, neither of us could think of a place we wanted to go: this doesn’t happen a whole lot, but we didn’t want to force a trip.
So, Trey and I landed here:
We decided to spend spring break here in Cochran or, at least, the surrounding area. We had a little fun outlining some things we’d get into around here, but mostly, we left our days open.
This might be the best spring break in recent memory.
I have so loved being able to relax.
Right before spring break, I got to that *desperate for a break* point where I felt like my patience start-point was in the negatives.
AND YET! BUT GOD!
I am back 100% folks because there are few ills some sleep and a lot of sunshine can’t fix.
Uneventful, lowkey, and relaxed: that’s what this 2025 spring break was- lots of being outside, spending time with Trey, visiting with friends (and celebrating two new babies added to the friend group!), and just enjoying some time off.
And thank goodness for that!
Naturally, we Book ended the week with pickleball.
Last Friday night was prom, but we got rolling early the morning after for some pickleball matches (always makes it easier to get up and get after it if it’s for pickleball).
We got some folks together and played at our beloved Cochran courts last week.
This Saturday, we’re heading up to Ted Wright (probably as you read this- how about that for time travel) to get in some games here at the end of the break as well.
Errands and chores, chores and errands
I’ve tried to knock off some to-dos this week as well:
- I did a closet-purge.
- Our house is deep-cleaned.
- We shopped around in Macon for Boone.
- I have refreshed my library book selection.
- Boone has been bathed.
- Boone has been brushed (more than he would ever like to be, thank you very much).
- I’ve taken the spare clothes to Goodwill.
- We have filled the freezer with meat.
- The refrigerator will *hopefully* get a facelift today.
- We replaced our plastic food storage with healthier silicon containers.
Plants, plants, plants
I’ve had my mind on plants a lot this week, and here’s why:
I’m going to *try* to grow some veggies organically this year. Again, if you have been reading for any amount of time, you know that my dad just about laughed me out of the house when I told him this.
In all honesty, my chances for success?
They are near zero.
BUT, NEVERTHELESS, WE PERSIST!
I took a field trip to Chas Mar, which might be my new favorite store of all time. I checked out the wares there.
I just needed to get the juices flowing.
I ended up buying herbs one day: cilantro, basil, rosemary, and pineapple sage.
I Know You Were Wondering, But…
No, I did not plant any mint.
See, a couple years ago, I planted some in Momma and Daddy’s back yard. It was for a laugh mainly: I just like growing things.
One bush, though, has turned into an invasive species in their backyard.
Mowing the lawn makes it smell great!
Their middle child sure is great at attempting to ruin their lives.
I’m also into the flower game this year.
Ths planter behind the cottage (singlewide) needed a little facelift, so I got out there, and put in some sweat equity in the form of zinnias.
It makes me happy every time I walk by it.
There’s something to be said for planting something for that reason alone.
Are we golf people now?? What?
Trey and I are still heavily invested in our first love, pickleball.
However.
I remembered that the Masters was this week, a memory helped along by Aunt Laura, who has us all playing the Fantasy league (a lot of fun for all of us, especially those who have NO CLUE what’s going on).
So, I figured why not get into the spirit by actually playing golf.
Aside from some golfing trips with friends (you can imagine how serious this was) and going golfing with the Kotara Destin crew, I’ve never played a ‘full round.’
We remedied this Thursday.
I want to say this: golf is, hands down, the most frustrating game ever.
We had the best time, though, playing 18 holes!
A lot of outside-sitting
We spent much time out in the backyard in our rocking lawn chairs. We got to watch some sunsets and enjoyed dusk.
Has there EVER been any prettier weather than this?
Boone spent these evenings outside with us, proving the fact that most anything can be improved by a puppy.
Some wellness fit in there, too.
Trey took Thursday and Friday off so he, too, could enjoy spring break. Wednesday evening, we celebrated this with a trip to beem Sauna in Macon.
45 minutes in extreme heat to sweat all of our cares and toxins away.
What more could you ask for?
Between the detox and the reading I got done, it was a 45 minute session well-spent.
Friday, we did massages: for Christmas, Momma gave me a gift certificate to Serenity Salon and Spa. This week seemed like the perfect week to use it.
I am so zen right now I can barely stand it.
Those kids won’t be ready for me come Monday.
As a side note: Boone is thriving.
I don’t know how he’s going to make it when Trey and I go back to work.
I really don’t.
He is living his best life ever with both of his parents at the house and 84% of all attention on him. When he goes back to being in the crate by himself during the day…well…no one will be happy about that.
At the beginning of spring break, last Saturday, he got a new bed, toy, elk bone, collar, and dog tag.
You can’t tell him NOTHIN’.
He has proven to be the very goodest gardening dog for the most part: he has dug a little bit, and he did bite off the tops of three English pea plants.
We can’t bat a thousand. That would just be unfair to all the other doggos out there.
It was the best spring break.
Now to enjoy the last couple of days before the sprint to the end of the semester!
